  1. INSTANT POT OATMEAL – W/ APPLES & CINNAMON
I MADE 2 BATCHES OF THIS RECIPES THIS MORNING. I HAVE 1 CUP BOWLS W/COVERS SO I
MAKE 2 BATCHES AT A TIME AND THAT LASTS ME 12 DAYS. I ALWAYS HAVE SOME IN THE FREEZER. IT IS MY FAVORITE. I USE REGULAR CINNAMON INSTEAD OF THE STICK SO I HAVE MORE CINNAMON FLAVOR, AND TODAY I USED GRANNY SMITH APPLES FOR A LITTLE
DIFFERENT TASTE, PLEASE COME UP WITH SOME MORE SIMPLE EASY RECIPES . I HAVE A HUSBAND WHO IS QUITE PICKY ABOUT WHAT HE EATS (HE IS 78) LIKES JUST PLAIN FOOD, NOTHING FANCY,. LOVE GETTING YOUR EMAILS. PLEASE CONTINUE.

  2. Hello! I’m looking forward to making your oatmeal tomorrow morning. I’d like to use cashew milk. How much do you think I should use? BTW love your hard boiled egg info!

    1. Hi Debra,

thank you for your kind words and question 🙂

I haven’t tried using cashew milk for oatmeal in the IP. I would suggest replacing the water with it and cook for 2 – 3 minutes longer.

Take care & have fun cooking

  3. hello!
my family LOVES this recipe and I have doubled it in my 6qt IP.
can I triple it? whats the maximum about I cant increase it in a 6qt IP?

    Thanks!

  4. Hello,
My kids LOVE this! and they ask for seconds and thirds! I would like to double the recipe. Can I double it in a 6qt IP? and also could I do overnight cooking? Will overnight cooking taste the same as if I were to cook it in the morning?

    Thanks so much!

    1. Hi Joanne,

thank you for your kind words 🙂

I would probably set a delay timer to cook it right before I wake up. You can double this in the 6 quart as long as you let it fully natural release.

      Take care!
      Jacky

  5. How do I stop it from burning ? I’ve tried it twice, and both times it did not come to pressure (checked seal to make sure it was on properly) and received burn notice. Not sure what I’m doing wrong.

    1. Hi Lisa,

      Thank you for your question.
The newer batches of Instant Pot are more sensitive with the burning message.

I would recommend using the Pot in Pot method instead.

  6. This recipe is great. I love it with a bay leaf added to the cooking liquid too!

If I want to use some milk and therefore do pot-in-pot, would the cpoking time be the same? And is it one cup of water in the base? I’ve been looking up p in p steel cut oats recipes and they’re all wildly different. I trust you guys the most! ?

    Thanks!

    1. Hi Lucy,

thank you so much for your kind words and question 🙂

Yes, it will be 1 cup of water in the base and I would increase the cooking time by 5 minutes for the Pot in Pot method.

Happy New Year to you and your family!

  7. Over the summer I diced fresh peaches and froze them, what would be the best ratio of vanilla and cinnamon to use for my oatmeal? Thanks in advance, I love this site. Hope Jacky is recovered.

    1. Hi Judy,

thank you for your love and care 🙂

I am super healthy now as it was last year when I was admitted into the hospital.

The 1 tsp of vanilla will be fine and I would cut the cinnamon to half.

Happy New Year to you and your family!
      Jacky

    1. Hi Alina,

thank you for your kind words and question 🙂

The whole milk can scald the pan and you can possibly get an OVERHEAT or BURN error.

You will want to use the pot in pot method if you want to use milk.

Happy New Year to you and your family
      Jacky

    1. Hi Cindra,

thank you for your question 🙂

No adjustment is needed unless you want a slightly thinner oatmeal.

Happy New year to you and your family!

  8. I love apple steel cut apple oats, but am craving some variety in my breakfast fruit. Would the measurements be the same for ripe bananas? and can I use almond milk instead of water?

    Thanks,
    Rachel

  9. hi,

can’t wait to try this, your other recipes i have tried have turned out exactly like you said. 🙂

one little thing: my first instant pot is the 10 in 1. some of the settings are a bit different. do you ever plan on using the 10 in 1 so you can swap out instructions as needed. you are already putting so much energy into this, i hate to ask for more, however i must.

    happy holidays!!!!

    1. Hi Linda,

thank you for your kind words and suggestions.

The Instant Pot Ultra is quite similar with the cooking flow. Please let me know if there are some settings you are not too sure about.

Take care & have fun cooking

    1. Hi Gummy,

thank you for your question 🙂

You can shorten the time by about 2 -3 minutes as rolled oats take less time to cook.

I would recommend only 1.5x the recipe as it is quite foamy. Just 1.5 times all the ingredients and the cooking time will stay the same.

Take care & have fun cooking
      Jacky

    1. Hi Carol,

thank you for your kind words & question 🙂

The water to oatmeal ratio and the cooking time will be the same.

Set the delay timer to start cooking 30 minutes prior to you waking up 🙂

Take care & have fun cooking
      Jacky

    1. Hi Paulynn,

thank you for your question 🙂

Yes they will work. Fuji apples are sweeter so you will want to adjust the sweetener accordingly!

    1. Hi Stephanie,

thank you for your question 🙂

The serving size is about 1 cup as the steel cut oats will expand about 4 times after cooked.

  10. This might be a silly question but can you reuse a cinnamon stick after it’s been used for this recipe? Could I use ground cinnamon instead?

    1. Hi Victoria,

thank you for your question 🙂

The cinnamon stick will lose most of it’s flavor after the first use. 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon will be a great substitution for 1 cinnamon stick.

take care & have fun cooking
      Jacky
